Dali's Alleyway won the 6th EDAWARD Real Estate Design Award - China Public Construction Project Excellence Award.

August 28-29, held in Shanghai, the sixth EDAWARD Real Estate Design Award - China online presentation ended successfully.HMD mentioned the strength of the report - Dali's alleyway project, won the public project excellence award.

CREDAWARD Real Estate Design Award-China was initiated by architect|DJSER in 2014, with the most influential academic representatives of China and the chief architect of the Top 50 developers as a joint jury. As a prestigious international design award in China, it is known as one of the "most difficult awards" by the industry due to its rigorous selection process, open selection mode and strict award mechanism. The organizing committee received a total of 1616 entries from 457 organizations, and eventually 442 projects were awarded the Excellence Award.

HMD believes that the renewal and development of cities is based on the original foundation, and that it is increasingly important to pass on cultural traditions and create a new image of the region with both traditional intentions and modern characteristics. Dali's Alleyway project, located on the ancient tea-horse road at the foot of Mount Cang, is positioned as a concentrated "tea-horse bazaar" exhibition area, designed to restore the architectural space of the settlement together with industrial operations and cultural life, to inherit and reflect the long-standing tea-horse culture.

The alleyways of Dali follow the characteristics of Dali settlement life, and with the concept of "thematic experience area with feelings", through the Dali sunshine in the courtyard and the Bai art pattern, to create an open arts and culture space, integrating the traditional courtyard feelings and situational scene experience. The planning texture continues the unified composition of traditional Dali streets, lanes, neighborhoods, courtyards and fields, and is appropriately abandoned to adapt to modern functions.

The type of the project is mountainous, HMD will arrange the sloping land into a number of terraces, on which courtyards and road squares will be built. The practice of "flat sky and uneven ground" is used to build platforms and overhangs with varying and jagged heights.

The main functions of Dali's alleys consist of the Square Street Square, public buildings and commercial courtyards with traditional architectural features.

Many of the towns have a more obvious square of Quad Street, from which several commercial streets emanate in tandem, and Quad Street becomes a generator of market life.

Markets, gates and theatres are traditional public places and buildings, which are the engines of community vitality, carrying people's activities such as strolling, leisure, gathering and celebrating, and reflecting the strong local culture and characteristics, HMD design focuses on controlling the interesting public spaces formed by the "living" streets and squares, and creating concert halls and elevated theatres, theatres and restaurants. Promenades, art lofts, workshop colonies, and other public open creative spaces.

HMD combines this characteristic architectural form with modern commercial functions, leaving behind the memory of tea and horse culture. Combining the traditional residential courtyard in the three pavilions and the courtyard in the four-in-five courtyard, it interprets four different experiences of the courtyard: the front courtyard, the middle courtyard, the back courtyard and the side courtyard. At the same time, the design of universal product + extension product leaves the user with room for development and strong flexibility of use.

By creating three themes of "art + life + aesthetics" and diversified composite formats, the alley will enable everyone to carve their own "slow time" here in Dali.

Architecture is a container for life, and interesting life needs architectural spaces with substance and heritage to carry it. Markets and bazaars are already associated with life, but have been forgotten by our generation. We are happy to see people in all kinds of costumes coming and going in the alleys of Dali, drinking tea, trading and selling handicrafts. Openness and sharing, this is the spirit of Dali, and I hope the alleys can maintain this valuable attitude. The prosperity of the thousand-year-old tea-horse road will return slowly in another way.
